Healthy Snacks for Diabetic Friends: Pt 1: Nuts- What to buy and how much to eat?

have a  family member who has suffered diabetes for almost 20 years. The problem with him is he loves snacks, from biscuits to dried fruits to all kinds of bread. I know it's very difficult to find snacks that completely doesnt raise his sugar level, but I aim to find snacks that will have minimal impact on his blood sugar.

According to  diabetes.org.uk, if you have diabetes, choosing healthier options will help manage your condition. Watching your portion size will also help you keep an eye on your weight.

SNACK SUGGESTION: NUTS

Following the suggestion of diabetes.org.uk,  Nuts and seeds are high in fibre and healthy fats, making them a great snack for a healthy, balanced diet.

Nuts and seeds also have different health benefits depending on which type you choose:

  • Almonds: these are a good source of calcium, which helps maintain strong bones.
  • Brazil nuts: these are a good source of a mineral called selenium. Selenium is an essential nutrient, and is an important part of many enzymes (substances that speed up reactions in our bodies).
  • Walnuts: these are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for heart health, making them a great option if you don’t eat oily fish.

How about snacking size:

In a healthcleathland.org article,   three servings of nuts each week. A serving size is an ounce, or about the amount that would fit in the palm of the hand.

Ok now to shopping for nuts,
